Winter Is Coming

Hey everybody.

It’s been a week to the day since I last posted, and that’s because I went out of town for a week, which wasn’t the original intention but it’s how it worked out anyway. The plan was to head out of town on Tuesday evening to avoid the traffic that was sure to happen because of Thanksgiving. I was going to spend some time with friends, spend the holiday with a portion of my family, and then come home on Saturday to once again avoid the traffic of everyone coming home from doing the exact same thing. That’s pretty much how it went, but I ended up staying two extra nights. I arrived home today around 3 p.m. and set about doing all of the homework I should have been doing during the week. Thankfully that’s all taken care of now, and another class bites the dust.

Despite my best intentions of avoiding the traffic on Tuesday, I was still stuck in it. I left town about 7 o’clock and it took over two hours to get to where I was going — a trip that usually only takes an hour and a half tops. Upon my arrival I went straight to my best friend’s house who informed me that we had plans. We ended up going out to a casino and having some drinks along with gambling a bit. I didn’t win anything, before you ask. Wednesday I met my mother and one of my ex-girlfriends (who remained friends with my family) for lunch, and otherwise faffed about with my buddy. Thursday was the holiday in question, and we had a great meal. I watched football most of the day and then we ate, before I headed off to see friends again. Friday was more of the same, and though I planned to leave on Saturday, my friend told me he got Sunday off from work and that they were having a gathering for another friend’s birthday that evening. He didn’t give me much of a choice in the matter, so I stayed. The party-of-sorts was entertaining, we had another awesome meal and plenty of drinks, but it ended rather early because everyone had to work in the morning. Sunday was set for relaxing while watching more football, and I came home today as I mentioned. All in all, it was great to see that many people, eat so much good food, have some drinks and relax. I took off from my responsibilities (both real and imagined) for the week and feel very refreshed as a result.

A few things started to change over the course of the week. Firstly, I recognized that I have been prioritizing things that I should probably leave on the back burner. It’s been a nice long run where I’ve been posting and podcasting and otherwise making content on the Internet, but I might start tapering off as I start to re-prioritize my life. Part of that change comes from my scheduling, where I had been staying up too late and sleeping too late as well. That coincides with irregular eating and sleeping habits, which are definitely not good for you. I’m going to attempt to get back into a more daytime oriented schedule, eating regular meals and getting more exercise. I already started getting into a better schedule while I was away, and I hope to keep that going. This means I might scale back (unless I can still fit it in) some of the content I’m making. I don’t want to let the blog die, nor the podcast, nor any of my other projects, but I need to make sure they are fitting into my life and not the other way around. Plenty of people around the blogosphere have talked about these topics, so I don’t think I need to go into further detail. Just know I’m going to attempt to make positive changes in my life, and as a result there might be less noise coming from my corner of the Internet. I’m by no means going to disappear altogether though.

I didn’t really game much over the past week, so I don’t have material to write about anyway, so give me a bit to get back into the swing of things. Til next time.

    • Yeah, you’re one of the few people that have been reading my blog since back when it was more of a personal journal all the time.

I found it easier to find things to write about that weren’t dealing with my personal life though, so it’s unlikely I’d ever go back to that style all the time. But never say never I suppose.
