I had planned on going into detail about my goings-on in Everquest II, however I didn’t really take down any notes on our adventures, and I am having a hard time remembering zones/mobs/quests that were defeated/completed. As such, I will just throw a bunch of pictures at you, and we’ll go from there. Basically we covered all of The Shadow Odyssey dungeons, along with a couple from other expansions, and I’ve already mentioned my AA progress and that sort of thing. I have been enjoying the game for the most part, but I am treating it more like a single player or small group RPG rather than an MMO, and haven’t been playing on a “this is my second job” sort of level. I’m not sure if I will ever play an MMO like that again, having had personal issues as a result of playing too much in the past. Still, it’s been fun being able to experience some of the content I skipped over. Self mentoring is a nice touch that I haven’t seen done in too many other MMOs, where you can still get the benefits of a dungeon (such as xp and monies) and it is still a little bit of a challenge. I’m still a few AAs short before I’ll be able to advance my toons to level 95, but that shouldn’t take too much longer. Then I can finally dive into the two newest expansions that I have yet to touch. There will be more to come, but for now, here’s some shots of our recent adventures:

How well does Everquest II hold up these days? Sounds interesting.

Like most of the market, it has been homogenized to the point that you can solo pretty much everything until you hit the end game (excluding dungeons/raids of course). The majority of the remaining population is at the end game, so most zones are pretty sparse. Unless you are in a guild or have some friends that play, you’ll probably be pretty lonely. I just have established roots there so I have been able to still get things done.
There is a free to play version and they removed many of the restrictions so you can give it a try if you want. I’m usually on my Brigand Izlain on the Butcherblock server if you want to say hi.

Sounds quite a lot like what they did to FFXI as well. That game is in much the same situation.
Yes, if i decide to give it a try, I’ll let you know. Thanks. 🙂

I want to say FFXI is even older than EQ2, but regardless any game that old is bound to lose a large portion of its peak audience. Streamlining keeps the remainders playing and allows those who get into the game late to be able to participate in most of it.
It’s a shame that some games eventually die, but the good news is there’s always something new on the horizon.

Yes, i suppose they try to keep it going as long as they can. Can’t blame them i suppose.
You are most correct there. A couple of new MMOs have just come out i believe. I know ESO is out or nearly out, for sure.

ESO has been officially out for a week or two. Wildstar is out in a couple of months or less. EQNext is still the one I’m waiting for, but no idea when that will show up.

EQNext? I must of missed that one.

Really? What have you been reading? You’ve heard of Landmark at least right?

I tend to avoid MMO news these days. I simply can’t afford to play them anymore. Yes, i’ve heard of that one.

Ok well Landmark was essentially dev tools for EQNext that they decided to release as a separate game. It’s essential Norrath flavored Minecraft. EQNext is supposed to have some of those elements but be a full on MMO.
I didn’t play them for over three years. Then I just started toying around with my old flame recently. Free to play titles are everywhere now though, so cost isn’t the issue, I find it’s lack of time that makes them hard to devote myself to. If you play an MMO regularly, you are missing out on a lot of single player experiences that are sometimes better.

Sounds interesting. Is it free?
Yes, i used to play FFXI quite a lot. Then i went off of it. Too much of a time investment. I tend to play single games a lot more now, though i still enjoy multiplayer if it’s available.

No it isn’t free. They were allowing people to pay to play the alpha. It’s in beta now. I can’t remember if it was going to be free to play after full release. They were saying EQN would be free upon release.

Ahh, i see. Is it likely to be free when it releases, in your opinion?

Honestly I don’t remember if they said so or not. But with how much they were charging for the alpha, that was either kind of like a “kickstarter” in a sense, or they will be charging something. I’d be pissed if I paid for early access and the full game ended up being free.
However I did do something like that with Path of Exile, but the $10 I payed to get early access ended up being credited to my account in their RMT currency, so I essentially still go the game for free. If Landmark/EQN did something like that I suppose paying a little early could be worth it.
