Quitting is for Quitters

Well I have a few things to share this time, so here goes. I’m sick (yes again). I don’t know exactly what it is, but it feels like it could be bronchitis, which seems to be something I get about once a year. Thankfully I still have my inhaler from the last time I had it, and we had some cough medicine, and I’m feeling a little better today than I did yesterday. I’m hoping I can avoid going to the doctor, but we’ll see how long this goes before I can kick it. I started getting sick on Monday night, and by Tuesday it was horrible. I was feverish, I had shortness of breath, and a pretty deep chest cough. I pretty much slept the whole day away, and ended up going back to bed after being up for only a little while. I just woke up a little while ago, and I feel better than yesterday (explains why I can even get on the computer), but I’m not perfect yet. Being sick caused one other thing. I told myself that I’m going to quit smoking. I threw out the pack I had, and I didn’t smoke at all yesterday. I haven’t smoked today. I guess it’s easy when you feel like crap, but either way, I’m done with it. I guess I was in denial a bit before, thinking when I got sick it was just that, a sickness. But now I feel that the smoking helped cause it. If nothing else, it didn’t make it any better.

There was a mistake with Gina’s taxes, and we’re actually not getting her return until this upcoming friday. I got my W-2 with my paycheck last week, and I did my taxes, and I’m getting far less than she is. I’m getting about $800 back total, from Federal and State. Which is a lot less than I was expecting, but I don’t know why I expected more, as I always get fucked on my taxes.

I bought a new cd. The latest Hatebreed disc. Funny story, I first heard the first song on this cd on my friend’s voicemail, and that actually made me want to buy the cd. Anyway, it’s really good, and I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys Hardcore/Metal. My Aunt sent me a promotional code for 10 free downloads from a Sony company (similar to the other mp3 purchasing sites out there). So I browsed through their selection, and thought they had a bunch of stuff that I would have liked, I ended up getting the latest Guttermouth, which coincidentally was 10 songs long. I just need a cd so I can burn it , and then transfer the songs to my media player library. The program they make you use to download the songs, uses a strange format I’ve never seen, OMA. I have an audio converter, but I’m pretty sure it won’t work on something so obscure.

My computer is running good still, so taking all that time for formatting was worth it. I’m happy with the results. EQ has also been running better than ever, and I’m watching to keep the amount of shit that gets put on my comp is limited to that which is necessary. Tomorrow is Gina’s birthday, and she’s going to be a whopping 27. I haven’t yet figured out what I’m going to do for her, but I will figure something out. Hopefully I’m back to normal by then, then I can enjoy the special day with her. I got the day off, and so does she, so I’d like to just spend it with her. That’s about all I have for now. Peace out bitches.

All Things Nerd

Well, I guess it was that time again. I formatted my computer today, and as I type this, I am still downloading all of the updates needed to finally play EQ again. Thankfully, this is the last step. I started my day today cleaning house a bit, and then after Gina went to work at 3, I started up my computer, with the intention of playing EQ for a while. I created a new character (I’ve had alt-itus since I started the game) and was playing around with that. At one point, while zoning (read: moving between different areas in the game, where you see a “loading” screen), my computer seemed to hesitate, and didn’t want to load the next zone. Ironically, having problems with this game spurned my format session last year, when I first started playing the game. Anyhow, I didn’t give up just then. I decided to log in my main character (read: highest level), to help out Jason’s little brother (who just started playing the game recently) with a quest. When I was logging in, the same “zoning bug” happened again. I’ve had the problem in the past, but it tended to correct itself with a restart of my computer and the game. So I tried that. It didn’t work. So I tried going back to the new character I started. Same thing. So as a last ditch effort, I logged into one of my characters on a different server. This was a success. Thinking that the server itself was having a problem. I logged out and called my Dad. I asked him if had tried to log in recently, and he said no, but he tried while we were on the phone. He logged in with no problems. So I tried again, still not luck. I read some troubleshooting issues on the Station website, and tried those fixes (one being the download of new video drivers; new ones were available), still without any luck. Finally, I decided to byte the bullet. There were other issues that helped the decision along, but this was the main one.

I got started around 9 p.m. The format went smooth, and I had no problem getting the system up and running, until I tried to get on the internet. I totally forgot where my NIC card drivers were, and I couldn’t find my geforce drivers either. Eventually I did, and then did all of the windows updates and all that bullshit. I transferred over all of my saved files from a burned cd, installed other downloaded programs/drivers, and did all of my tweaking of my setup. Then I installed EQ, and started that downloading process (which is taking much longer than all of the other shit). Unfortunately, I have 3 expansions plus all of the live updates since the original release of the game to download, so I probably won’t be playing again today. But that’s ok, I’m hoping the tradeoff is a boost in performance of the game.

I’ve spent some time watching movies and reading this weekend, and it seems that these are my hobbies now, aside from EQ. I also picked back up one of my other loves: writing. I suddenly had a great idea for a story last night, and wrote out a lengthy outline, getting all of my thoughts down on paper. I don’t know how long it will be before I get any farther, but I feel good having some creative energy expended in a more productive way. I really wish my books would have arrived in the mail by now, I could use a new good book. For now, I’m reading one of my older ones that I haven’t read in years. I’m going to be spending a lot of time reading when those new ones come… that’s for sure.

I got some good news today. Gina’s tax return is going to be in my bank account on Friday. We get paid tomorrow, and aside from bills, we’re going to have a lot of money. I still have two credit cards to pay off, we have to pay Jason his portion of the deposit, I have to pay my mom for the fridge they gave us, and I want to get some rims. Gina is still toying with the idea of using some of it for her computer, but if she doesn’t I’m still going to try and get financed for another Dell. I still haven’t received my W-2 in the mail yet, so I’m not sure how much I’m getting back, but I’m hoping its enough for the credit cards, at least. The less bills I have the better. I also got an offer in the mail from a financial company to refinance the car loan. Refinance time is coming up soon (I’m waiting for a year from the start of the loan), and I really want to do that as well, as a lesser car payment along with no other debt = more free money. If we cancel out all of our other debt aside from the car payment, then we just have that, and our normal monthly bills that really aren’t that much. It’s exciting. Everything is working out for me, finally. Life can be good. That’s about all I have for now…

The Dead Have Risen

First of all, sorry for the lack of posts, but I’ve been kinda busy. Second, I removed all of last year’s posts and put them in the archive, and am now starting with a clean slate here on the main page. Third, I made some adjustments to the “about me” page, so you can read that if you’re interested.

I made some purchases here recently that I’m pretty excited about. Normally all I buy are cds, and then I just play everquest. But in the quest to further entertain myself (and Gina), and since I don’t really hang out with friends much anymore, I decided I should buy some other things. I’m a member of Columbia House, and I still had part of my “obligation” to fulfill, so I made a larger purchase there, getting 3 movies. Those movies are “The Dead Series” collectively, otherwise known as Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead. I’ve always been a fan of Zombie movies, and I already have 2004’s remake of “Dawn”, along with “28 days later”, “Shaun of the Dead”, and the latest Romero flick: “Land of the Dead”. So I figured I should have the ones that started it all, or at least became the most popular. I’ve heard of others, but also heard they weren’t very good. So I plan to watch those soon.

I also joined the Science Fiction Book Club, and though I’m not a huge fan of science fiction, fantasy is included, along with Stephen King/Dean Koontz type books, vampire novels, etc. And I am a fan of those types. So I subscribed and made my first order yesterday, and am now awaiting (impatiently I might add) my books to arrive. I ended up getting the last 3 books in King’s Dark Tower series (the only 3 I don’t have), along with a newer series from Terry Brooks (author of the Shannara series), another King book “Cell”, and the “Dark Elf Trilogy” by R.A. Salvatore (I was missing the last book, but they only sold the 3-in-1 version). I was in the middle of reading the Dark Tower book 5 when we moved out of the old house, and since it was Jason’s, I hadn’t been able to finish it. But they’re all books I really want to read, and I’ve taken up reading again mainly due to the fact that my sister bought me a book for xmas, and it was a page turner. There are many other books on the site I’d like to purchase as well, so I think the membership was a very good idea.

Otherwise, things are as they usually are. Me and Gina watched a couple movies over the past week, one being “The Da Vinci Code”, which was an awesome movie (very thought-provoking, we had a conversation into the wee hours of the morning because of it), and the other being “You, Me, and Dupree”, which was quite funny, though not a movie I would buy. I’ve been playing Everquest a lot as usual, though I’ve been bouncing around with it. When I started the game I played on the same server as my dad, but then found the challenge of pvp fun, and swapped servers. I got bored with that after a time, and went back to my Dad’s server where we started a guild. I kept one character active on that server, and went back to pvp here recently, but was lured back to that server with the hopes of maxing out my character’s level. The guild has also been flourishing, with our older players playing more often, and the recruiting of new members has begun to pick up. It’s a lot of fun, but I do wish that I had that second computer I’ve been dreaming about, so that Gina could play with us. There’s so much left to do. With that, I’m out of here before I bore you to tears talking about shit you probably know nothing about.

A New Dawn

Well it’s a new year. And being a new year, I should do another post like I did last year, and have myself a new tradition. If you were still reading my site that long ago, you’ll know that I did a post reviewing the events of the year, and I’d like to do so again. I should also mention that my page is now 2 years old, at least this page as it sits now is. Anyway without further adieu, here’s the review:

January
January was one of our busiest months of the year. We had already begun to have problems with Molly, who we had moved in with in the last quarter of ’05. But things escalated to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore. I had been talking to Jason about moving back into town and getting a job at the casino, and he did so, starting at the end of the month. We decided to get a place together when Molly and Gina got into a fist fight, after Molly stole our digital camera. The Sherrif was called but nothing was done. We had finally had it, and we moved out in Feburary. I also got my only tattoos for the year, some fill-in on my left arm, and my crimson ghost on my right calf. We did a little partying here and there, and began to hang out with people from work.

February
February pretty much was our move month. We moved in to our (now old) pad and I had a few vacation days to get everything set up. After that we ended up purchasing things to make the house nicer, and also some other shit to fix things up. Jason purchased a computer and some other things as well. We had a housewarming party. That’s about it.

March
In March I discovered my current addiction: Everquest 2. I still play avidly. I also got my 1 year evaluation at work, along with a 50 cent raise. I also applied to be a supervisor at work, but got shot down. I bought some tickets for our first concert of the year, the Coheed and Cambria/Avenged Sevenfold tour. Otherwise, we watched more movies (at the theater and home) and had a few more parties, most noteably for my friend Howard’s birthday.

April
This month we discovered a really good local band (two actually) that featured members who Gina knew from working at the local tattoo shop years past. Kill Deville and Concrete Explosion were the bands, and they put on a good show, at a local bar, Johnny’s. Jason and I had a few differences of opinion during the month (which I think partially had to do with his then girlfriend, good ol’ nicole), but we worked those out in an adult fashion. I reformatted my computer for the first time since it’s purchase, and that was a pain in the ass. I think that time is coming up again soon unfortunately. We also went to the kick ass concert that was mentioned previously. And, the most important purchase of the year was made… my new car.

May
In May I got sick. I came down with what I thought was a cold, and what turned out to be bronchitis. I used my insurance for the first time, and that was nice to have. Mine and Gina’s one year anniversary hit, and I had something special planned. We visited my Dad and then went to Magic Mountain. While we were leaving MM, I proposed to Gina, and of course she accepted. We’re still not married, but it will happen soon enough. I also had a large falling out with a number of my friends, and found myself somewhat friendless. And though I had made ammends with most of them, we still don’t really hang out all that much. From this point on, partying didn’t happen much for the rest of the year.

June
AFI released their newest album on the 6th, and it is still in rotation in my cd player. I changed the layout of my page to one that exists now. Gina had an issue at work and was a code blue. She ended up getting taken in an ambulance to the hospital, and I left work to meet her there. It became an epidemic of sorts, with hazmat coming to the casino at all. Glad I got to miss all that. I also got Gina to start playing EQ with me, on Jason’s computer, something we continued for the rest of the year. The casino sent all the employees to Knotts Berry Farm, and we enjoyed that (so did the kids). Ivy’s B-day came around, and we got her a kitten for it, naming him “Batman”. Shit hit the fan for Ted as well, and he was crashing at our house for a while.

July
I learned of another Coheed concert coming up in august, and purchased tickets. Me and Gina had been going through some issues, but we worked things out, and were stronger for it. I hung out with Ted a lot as he dealt with his shit, and we made some bar trips. Also had a couple barbeques with him and another work friend, Steve. It was hot. That’s really it.

August
Previously we had purchased a bed from rent-a-center. We discovered another store in town called Aaron’s, which we ended up getting a bed, couch, and chair from. We turned the other bed back in. Jason decided that he was going to move out at the end of our lease, so we were faced with decisions. We also found out about the possibility of buying the house we were living in. We saw Coheed for the second time that year, and it was a much better show that the first we went to. I also talked to Mike (my tattoo artist) for the first time since January, and we worked out a trade-work scheme that would enable me to get my sleeve finished. That still hasn’t gone through to this day.

September
At the beginning of this month we had a reunion with my buddy Louie, and a huge party, involving alcohol, tons of minors, and the cops. I almost got into a fight. Some dude went to jail. I started a guild on Everquest. I started thinking about buying a motorcycle as a secondary means of transportation. I bought some weights for a weight bench I acquired, and we started working out (which I’ve slacked on since). Oh, and I finally caught up on some yard work.

October
I reconciled with a few of my friends this month. The Cold War was over. But we’re far from best friends again. I also made friends with a co-worker of mine, Art, and we began to hang out. We got the windows tinted on the car. My sister turned 21, and to celebrate we got her fucked up at the local bar. I also had a pretty good Halloween party, and quite a few people showed, costumes and all.

November
I went on vacation for a whole week. I spent most of it playing EQ, but also went out to visit my Dad. I spent a couple days there, then came back. My mom also took me out to the Olive Garden for my birthday, and it was nice since I never had been there. I renewed my badge at work, which was a pain. We also acquired a futon, so we had Aaron’s take back the couch we were paying on, effectively reducing our bills. We also went to a birthday party for one of my co-worker’s kids, Art’s girlfriend. And then I came down with the stomach flu, which really fuckin’ sucked. I got a long weekend for it, but it was far from enjoyable.

December
In Decemeber, shit hit the fan again, and we found that we were going to have to move again. We ended up staying in that house until the 15th, paying the rent only until then. Jason moved back in with his mom, and we found a new place on the other end of town. We spent the last couple weeks of the month moving and fixing up the new pad, including painting and shit. And of course there was christmas preparation along with celebration, and that was all good.

All in all, it was a more drama-free year, and I feel pretty good about it. This year, I’m shooting for 100% drama free-ness. Wish me luck on that. As far as this year goes, I had to work on New Years again, and that sucked. Otherwise, we haven’t done much, though I did get tattooed again for the first time in a year. I ended up getting the cat off the cover of AFI’s “All Hallows EP” standing on the words “Feet First”. The inspiration there was from something my mom told me a long time ago. She told me I’m like a cat, I always land on my feet. You get the idea. Gina’s ex-husband did the line work, and it came out pretty clean. Sometime in the near future I’ll get that colored, and then I’ll be able to move on to something else. That’s all for me for now. I’m typed-out.
